Helvetica Film, and Other Suchnesses

The Helvetica Film, www.helveticafilm.com, was a nice time. i understood the “inside jokes,” and empathised with the grumblings of the rock star creatives. i think i got the biggest kick out of Erik Speikerman saying, “Even though i am German, i still don't like rules too much.” Imagine that, a man from the land of the Bauhaus thinking that rules can be oppresive when taken too far. Of course, Rod Parker once told me (paraphrased here): designing TOO tightly to the rules or the grid can lead to something being overdesigned. Anyway, spend the $20 USD and get the DVD.

i am enjoying my job at I.T. by Design (did that site too). i just finished a website for Sammy's Grill. i am happy with the design, although i wish i had more than 1.5 weeks to do it because then i would have done the whole thing in CSS. i cheated a little and used tables for some of the layout. Yes, CSS is better, folks, but admit it, the different browsers treat positioning and expanding differently and i made a decision to use the quicker option given the short production time. But gimme feedback if you like, i am always eager to learn from my peers.

My roommate just got a brand-spanking-new MacBook Pro 17" with the HD screen. Ooh, i am so jealous... and envious of his iPhone too. Oh, well, when the next generation iPhone comes out i am going to buy one too.

What about ya’ll?

What I've been doing

The monday following graduation... I racked up a heck of a job doing contract work for vespa scooters and h2o auto spa... I'm completely branding h2o and I have total creative freedom... the guy that pays me actually has a sharp eye and knows what he likes, so that helps me help them all the more better!
About a month after I landed that... I landed another job, this one being full time working for bclip productions! I'm a multimedia developer there and also lead designer in both offices (we have an office in NC and LA, shortly we'll have one in Chicago). I've never had the type of responsibility I have there, it's crazy how so many people are relieing on me. What I do exactly is, I develop cd and dvd interfaces. I design what a commercial will look like, web design, I brought a print background to them, photography, video production, etc. I really like the people there, we have fun at work and you can't really ask for anything better than that. I hope everyone else is doing well.

Cork & Fork

Hey guys. I'm doing a little freelance project for a little bit of dough. I just wanted some input about this mark. It is for a supper club in BR that want to be called "The Royal Knights of the Cork & Fork." Let me know what you guys think of the mark and how well it refers to the name mentioned above. Later.

keeping in touch

hello everyone! A girl I work with has a blog for their design class to keep in touch and post interesting things they find about design and even post things to crit! I thought this would be a good idea for the class of '07. I don't believe you have to have an account to comment but you do have to have one to post threads. I'm inviting everyone who's email I have to be an administrator that way they call log on post what they want. It's real easy to do and hope you all take the time to keep the blog up-to-date! I guess that's all for now. Join, blog, and keep in touch!

p.s. once you join, go under the template tab and add your website address! let me know if you need help. it can be confusing at first.

p.s.s. we need a creative title for the blog. i'm thinking a paul dean quote or something funny about design. post some names and we can set up a pole to vote on them!
